Module 5 Student Assessment

"This module has helped me think about student-centered assessment in the following ways…"

 Student-centered assessment helped me think more in-depth about how my students are learning and how to carefully monitor their progress and provide them with meaningful feedback. The most important point of assessment is that the assessment is valid and elicits the kind of learning I want to measure. The kinds of tests I administer can also affect student motivation. I have to think from a student's perspective and create assessments they can understand and interpret. In the art classroom, assessments can vary in many ways, such as in class discussions, quizzes, and peer critiques. When students assess their own work, they are assessing their abilities and products in a more personal way and this guides and motivates them to make progress in the future.

Module 1 Reflection: Instructional Design

This article has made me think about my role as an instructional designer in the following ways... To design effective lesson plans that are meaningful and purposeful, teachers must deeply consider how their students are learning and how to best present and evaluate performance. Lesson plans should be student centered learning experiences that will be remembered and demonstrated proficiently by the students.  There are two extremes in the approach of instructional design; teacher and classroom-centered instructional design and student and learning-centered instructional design. Teacher and classroom-centered instructional design focuses on teacher performance, activities, classroom events and experiences, and lesson planning only addresses the teacher's time with students. Module 2 Professional Learning Communities Reflection

For this assignment, students were required to participate in professional learning communities in an inclusive and  productive way.The assigned reading "Modern Professional Learning: Connecting PLCs with PLNs", states that a Professonal Learning Community is: "a group of educators that meets regularly, shares expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students." In the assigned reading "What is Professional Learning?" , the article states many reasons that professional learning communities offer educators and students and opportunity to participate in a learning community that builds a community of collaboration.
